Basic Info
Name:Helmut Eismeer
Location:United States
Bio
This is Helmut's LJ for [info]suiko_rpg

Name: Helmut
Star Position: Suikoden IV; Chian
Age and Birthday: 27

Appearance:
Standing about 5'11" tall, Helmut is a lanky, young man. His hair is an odd color of silver and his eyes are brown, thus giving him a rather unique appearance. His face is often serious, as he takes his job quite seriously, but once in awhile he has been known to smile—especially in the company of his friends.

He prefers to wear light armor when in battle and traditional Kooluk clothes when not. Although his uniform is red and beige, he feels most comfortable in blues and greens. Boots are a necessity for him and he feels awkward without them.

(Colton is also quite thankful that the boy looks like his mother!)

Personality:
Helmut is a serious young man. He has spent most of his life training to be a naval officer and he doesn't want to disappoint his father. He keeps to himself, but those who are fortunate enough to foster a friendship with him will have his loyalty for life.

He is very dedicated to his word and when he makes a pact, he will keep it. He is most likely to say, "A promise is a promise" thus even if it is not one he really wishes to fulfill, he will do so to keep his honor.

Weapons:
Officer's sword—single handed sword. Nothing special; standard issue to the Kooluk army.

Occupation:
Helmut is Captain of the Third Kooluk Fleet. Or, he was until he was captured by the Island Liberation Army. He served them as a soldier and he did so proudly, even though they were once his enemy. At the time he is pulled the Budehuc castle, he and his father are sailing north to leave Kooluk for good.

Talents:
Helmut can cook relatively well. He's also a fantastic sailor and has been known to play a great game of Ritapon.

Runes:
Cyclone Rune. Wind magic is his gift!

Weaknesses:
Helmut's greatest weakness is his ability to second-guess himself and others. He's never quite content to just do as he's told—and though that could be considered an asset—as a soldier, he must obey his commanding officer. He also works too hard to please his father and struggles with the knowledge that he is a traitor. To someone like him, who values honor above all else, this is a personal demon he will have to fight.

History:
Helmut was born to Colton and Vanelle Eismeer in the Kooluk Empire in the year 280. His mother was a noblewoman and his father a Captain in the Empire's Fleet. As a child of the upper class, he knew priviledge at a young age, but his father was often at sea. This caused tension between his parents as his mother despised being left for months at a time not knowing Colton's fate.

At 10 years old, his mother passed away and he was left in the care of maids and servants while his father continued his service to the country. Alone in the world, he often turned to his best friend, Layna, for support.

Wanting to prove himself to his father, Helmut enrolled in the military academy at age 13. Layna did as well, and together they quickly advanced into officer training. As they grew, so did their friendship and soon the two found themselves in love. Upon graduation, they were assigned to the same ship but carried on their relationship discreetly.

Graduation. It was the single proudest moment in his life at that point. His father was there and it was the second time Helmut had ever seen him cry. The time prior, of course, had been at his wife's death.

Eventually Helmut earned his own ship to command and was separated from Layna. He wrote her every chance he got, but mail was slow and often times he believed he lost her. He met Troy during this time and they became friendly. Helmut wholly respected the man known as The Child of the Sea God, though he was a little jealous when his father showed more interest in Troy than him during strategy meetings.

When he was 25, he was assigned to the rank of Commander of the Third Kooluk Fleet. He worked hard and though some of his men were older, his ability to command, lead and take the blame when warranted earned him their respect. He proposed marriage to Layna at this time and she accepted, though they knew they could not marry until the following year when her tour of duty was over.

At the outbreak of the Island Liberation War, his fleet was sent to Razril. He never quite understood why his country wanted to annex the small islands, but he did as he was told. Eventually Lazlo and the rest of the army showed up and defeated his fleet. Helmut agreed to serve the Island Liberation Army in exchange for the lives of his men.

When word was sent to Kooluk that the entire fleet had been destroyed and Helmut not accounted for, he was presumed dead. Layna was distraught, but remained in the army, hoping to avenge his death.

While on board the Dauntless, Helmut kept mostly to himself, feeling like he was the enemy on board. The people were decent to him, and he made friends with Kika's pirates. Never in his life did he believe he'd respect pirates, but the loyalty the men showed to Lady Kika struck a chord with him.

When his father was captured, he would sneak down to the cell and visit with him, bringing decent food and occasionally wine. Colton insisted on keeping their relationship a secret, though Helmut did as Lazlo not to dispose of the man yet.

Following the war, Helmut and Colton knew they would be no longer welcome in their homeland and made plans to leave for a new country. The two of them agreed to make one visit back to Kooluk at night before leaving for another part of the world. Colton went to his wife's resting place and Helmut visited Layna. He intended to tell her he was leaving and to offer her the chance to come with him. She could not as her father had promised her to a merchant twice her age in exchange for the clearance of debts. She convinced Helmut to spend the night with her and bid him farewell in the morning. He promised her he would return someday...

And so they set sail towards the northern countries, only to land in what would eventually become Zexen...
